New trainees join WRAD Health

WRAD Health is helping to train the next generation of AOD workers with new trainees Ryan Buhlman and Emily Haddon joining the team for 12 months.

Both local residents, Ryan and Emily  are keen to break down stigma attached to AOD issues and support people with dual diagnosis mental health and substance use.

Ryan is returning to WRAD Health after completing a six-month placement here last year while studying a Community Services diploma at South West TAFE. He next plans to start counselling and has long-term plans for working in a dual diagnosis role.

Emily is studying a Bachelor of Social Work through Swinburne University and has previously worked in residential care and nursing.

“I’ve been in the health sector my whole life and it is a passion of mine to do harm minimisation with youth to prevent the cycle from continuing into adulthood,” she said.

For Ryan, working in the field is about breaking down stigma around drug and alcohol support and helping people with their mental health.

Both trainees are enjoying the placements and learning from other clinicians.

The traineeships have been funded through the Department of Health. The traineeships support WRAD Health’s desire to grow our own workforce and continue developing as an an all-of-community health organisation.
